#Good To Know

IRVINE, CA (Aug. 11, 2015) – Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, part of the HSF Affiliates LLC family of real estate brokerage franchise networks, today announced real estate veteran Peter Turtzo has joined the network as senior vice president of International Operations. Turtzo is responsible for establishing strategy and process for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices’ growth into international markets, and later for the affiliation of brokerages abroad.

“Peter brings a wealth of experience in international real estate franchising to our organization,” said HSF Affiliates LLC CEO Gino Blefari. “He’s also a third-generation real estate broker who understands the opportunities and challenges of today’s brokerages. He’s the ideal professional to help us take the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices brand to key markets around the world.”

Turtzo comes to his position from Realogy Holdings Corp., where he held various leadership roles over 16 years. He was a business consultant for Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, then was vice president of Affiliate Services overseeing the top franchisees of Coldwell Banker, Century 21 Real Estate, ERA Real Estate and Sotheby’s International Realty. In 2005, Turtzo was appointed vice president of Global Operations at Sotheby’s International and for the next eight years developed that brand in 43 countries and territories. He served the last two years as vice president of Global Operations at Coldwell Banker.

“I’ve been impressed by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and its steady growth, so when the opportunity arose to join the organization I never really hesitated,” said Turtzo, who is based in Irvine, CA. “The brand’s namesake is Berkshire Hathaway Inc., one of the world’s most trusted and respected corporations. Accordingly, I believe Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices will be warmly embraced in markets around the globe and I’m excited to get involved at this early juncture.”

Turtzo, working in conjunction with HSF Affiliates’ SVP Earl Lee and other members of the executive leadership team, has already begun mapping processes. No timetable has been set for brokerage affiliation. “The United States remains a desirable and secure country for international buyers of real estate, and many domestic clients want properties abroad,” said Turtzo. “Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices will be there to help all who want to buy and sell properties.”

4 Home Fixes to Make This Summer

4 Home Fixes to Make This Summer

Now that spring has rolled seamlessly into summer, many homeowners are scrambling to keep up with their seasonal to-do’s. Below are four fixes you should consider making to your own home this summer.

Upgrade your insulation. A properly insulated home will keep your space cool in the summer and warm in the winter. If you haven’t had your insulation scoped out in a few years, hire a pro to come take a look to ensure you’re optimizing your home’s core temperature year round.

Check for leaks. A rainy spring may have sprung a few leaks in your home. Before fall rolls around, you will want to check your roof, siding and foundation for any possible damage. Scrutinize your roof flashing (a common culprit for leaks) and pop into the attic and basement to check for signs of wetness.

Upgrade your windows. Not only do they reduce your energy consumption and utility costs, but energy efficient double-pane windows also block heat to keep your home cool, reduce noise infiltration and filter out UV ways.

Service your furnace and air conditioner. Check both your furnace and AC filter to see if it’s time to swap it out.  These filters are designed to catch dust and clean the air before it’s pushed into your home, so replacing them regularly can minimize allergens and create cleaner, healthier air.
